Mueller & Associates, CPA Announce Initiatives to Protect Local Nonprofits

IRS Deadline for Loss Exemption Approaches

Mueller & Associates, CPA, LLC announced today a special initiative to protect the tax exempt status of all small nonprofits in Northern Colorado.

Nonprofit organizations are annually required to file an information return (Form 990) with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS).  Failure to do so for three consecutive years can result in a loss of their tax exempt status.

Small nonprofits with annual gross income of $25,000 or less can satisfy this annual requirement by filing Form 990-N.  The 990-N is an online electronic postcard that discloses basic information about the nonprofit organization.

Form 990-N became a required filing for the 2007 tax year.  For small nonprofits, the 2009 Form 990-N could be a crucial filing if they have not filed the previous two years.  The deadline for the 2009 Form 990-N is May 15, 2010.

Through May 15, 2010, Mueller & Associates will assist these organizations with the filing of their 2009 Form 990-N free of charge.  Qualifying organizations should contact Teresa Mueller at 970.667.1070 as soon as possible to take advantage of this free service.
